The main thing to keep updated is your operating system. This process differs significantly between Windows PCs and Mac OS computers:

Windows machines can be checked simply by searching 'updates' from the desktop search function

This will take you to the Updates section of Windows Settings where your PC will tell you if updates are available. It's advisable to save and close everything you're working on before running updates, since your computer will likely restart. Depending on when you last ran updates, it could take around 30 minutes to complete, so factor this in when planning your time.

Mac OS:

From the Apple icon in the top left of the desktop, click About this Mac, and Software Update. Alternatively, it can be accessed from System Preferences.
